Director Sidney Hayers’s 1970 adventure thriller Mister Jericho stars Patrick Macnee, who is on good form as conman Mister Dudley Jericho, who sets out to Malta to grab a fabled diamond from ultra-rich corrupt millionaire Victor Russo (Herbert Lom). This twisty, feisty little teaser of a British TV movie earned a cinema release in the UK.
The handsome little film is surprisingly plush, exciting and well made. It involves many of The Avengers series crew (star, producer, director, composer, writer) and was destined for television but was released by J Arthur Rank Film Distributors in 1970 in the UK.
Also in the cast are Connie Stevens, Marty Allen, Leonardo Pieroni, Peter Yapp, Bruce Boa, Joanne Dainton, Paul Darrow and Jasmina Hilton.
The story and screenplay by Philip Levene are based on an idea by David T Chantler.
The song ‘Mister Jerico’ (music by George Martin, lyrics by Don Black) is performed by Lulu.
Mister Jericho is directed by Sidney Hayers, runs 95 minutes, is made by Incorporated Television Company and Associated Television, is released by J Arthur Rank Film Distributors (1970) (UK) and American Broadcasting Company 1970) (US), is written by Philip Levene, is shot by Alan Hume, is produced by Julian Wintle and scored by Laurie Johnson, with Production Design and Art Direction by Harry Pottle.
