Evelyn Keyes opined that Mrs Mike (1949) was her best film. Among the many Hollywood affairs she recounted was one with co-star Dick Powell.
Director Louis King’s 1949 black and white adventure drama Mrs Mike stars Dick Powell and Evelyn Keyes.
Powell plays Canadian Mountie Mike Flannigan who gets his woman, Boston-born Kathy O’Fallon (Keyes), and shows her how to adapt to life in the frozen north.
Attractive acting, a warm spirit and a good atmosphere give a strong lift to this fairly entertaining, sentimental story.
Mrs Mike is directed by Louis King, runs 99 minutes, is made by Nassour Studios, Huntington Hartford Productions and Regal Films, is released by United Artists, is written by Lewis Levitt and De Witt Bodeen, is shot in black and white by Joseph F Biroc, is produced by Samuel Bischoff and Edward Gross, and scored by Max Steiner.
Also in the cast are J M Kerrigan and Angela Clarke, John Miljan.
Evelyn Louise Keyes (November 20, 1916 – July 4, 2008) is best known for her role as Suellen O’Hara in the 1939 Gone with the Wind, after which Columbia Pictures signed her to a contract. In her 1977 autobiography she opined that Mrs Mike was her best film. Among the many Hollywood affairs she recounted was one with Dick Powell, but she said she had to fend off studio boss Harry Cohn’s advances during her career at Columbia.
Dick Powell and Evelyn Keyes also starred in Johnny O’Clock.
