‘She was abused and violated. It will never happen again!’
A timid, mute Manhattan woman called Thana (Zoë Lund) gets raped twice after coming home from work, then dresses suggestively, cruises the streets and wreaks vengeance with her .45 caliber pistol to shoot men on the streets of New York, in Abel Ferrara’s notorious, long banned 1981 vigilante shocker of a crime thriller Ms. 45 [Angel of Vengeance].
It was finally released on TV in the UK in 2000.
Abel Ferrara plays the first rapist (billed as Jimmy Laine).
Zoë Lund (billed as Zoë Tamerlis) was only 17 at the time.
The screenplay is by Nicholas St John.
It was made for $62,000.
Its original title and UK and US title is Ms .45. Angel of Vengeance is its alternative title.
The British video release, on the Warner Bros Maverick Director’s label, was cut by one minute 42 seconds by the BBFC. An uncut version was briefly accidentally released. The US DVD, released by Artisan, also features a cut version of the film.
