Five youngsters try to win $1million by staying for six months in a creepy house, miles from anywhere, with everything they do being captured on webcams. But as time ticks by, it becomes clear somebody or something does not want them there, at least alive.
Director Marc Evans’s 2002 low-budget Brit chiller mixes Big Brother and Ten Little Indians, raising plenty of tension, shivers, some real scares and a few big shocks. And the result is a nice attempt at a good idea.
But it could all be much better handled, with far more development of the plot and characters in the screenplay by David Hilton and James Watkins, and especially greater focus on credibility and ingenuity. The webcam filming method seems to be leant on simply to hide the need for directorial flair and imagination. The actors seem to have been chosen merely as suitable candidates to be killed off.
Sean C W Johnson, Kris Lemche, Laura Regan, Jennifer Sky, Stephen O’Reilly and Bradley Cooper star, with Nick Mennell as the cop.
