Director Jonathan Wacks’s 1991 teen romantic comedy crime drama stars the young Ethan Hawke, who is good as gawky, gauche teenage kid Tom McHugh, who fancies the cute blonde girl next door, Geena Matthews (Teri Polo).
But his quest for her is strewn with disasters, in this flaccidly written (by Parker Bennett and Terry Runte) teen-style version of After Hours (1985), with a decent support cast and Wacks providing the right kind of eerie atmosphere for the material to help Hawke out.
Brian McNamara also stars as the elder brother who tries to help Hawke get the girl. Unfortunately that help includes providing Hawke with a car that turns out to have a corpse in the trunk.
Also in the cast are Fisher Stevens, B D Wong, Tony Rosato, Don S Davis, James Hong, Victor Wong, Ping Wu, Duncan Fraser, Jerry Wasserman, Terry David Mulligan, Merrilyn Gann, Stephen Chang, Russell Jung, Michelle Little, Allan Lysell and Donna Lysell.
