It’s lucky 13 when George Clooney returns again as Danny Ocean and rounds up his boys Brad Pitt’s Rusty Ryan, Matt Damon’s Linus Caldwell and co for a third heist, after Al Pacino’s casino owner Willy Bank double-crosses Elliott Gould’s Reuben Tishkoff, one of the original eleven.
Uniting with their old enemy Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia), who has a vendetta against Bank, the boys set out to pull off a major new coup on the night Bank’s latest hot spot opens up.
Brian Koppelman and David Levien’s screenplay is safe and sound for this more than welcome third episode that manages to pull off a successful hat trick with style and energy to spare. All the old crew are back, and on great form too: Bernie Mac, Carl Reiner, Scott Caan, Casey Affleck, Don Cheadle. It may not be Pacino’s best work ever, not quite fitting in to this established, clubbish ensemble, but he’ll do quite nicely. Is the story far fetched? Well, yes, but that’s not the point. It’s a caper and it’s fun, and that’s the point.
After Ocean’s Eleven (2001) and Ocean’s Twelve (2004), it marks the final film of the Ocean’s trilogy, with no further movies so far.
On 30 October 2015 it was announced that a new Ocean’s Eleven movie remake is in the works – with an all-female cast led by Sandra Bullock.
