Director Bernard McEveety’s 1973 Walt Disney Productions American Western comedy film One Little Indian stars James Garner, Vera Miles, Pat Hingle, Andrew Prine, and Morgan Woodward, as well as a 10-year-old Jodie Foster.
One Little Indian is a Walt Disney live action adventure picture with James Garner as cavalry soldier on the run Corporal Clint Keyes, accompanied by a runaway little Indian boy and two camels, playing hide and seek with the US Cavalry. He meets a widow called Doris McIver (Vera Miles) and her little daughter Martha (Jodie Foster), who may turn him in to the Cavalry.
It is possible that small children may well perhaps be entranced by this unremarkable, flatly handled and rather dreary animal adventure, in particular by Thirsty the baby camel. But, despite the strong adult casting, there is not much here for grown-up audiences.
Also in the cast are Pat Hingle, Morgan Woodward, John Doucette, Clay O’Brien, Jodie Foster, Andrew Prine, Bruce Glover, Ken Swofford, and Jay Silverheels.
The script is written by Harry Spalding.
Garner recalled his dissatisfaction with the film, whose sole aspect he said he appreciated was Jodie Foster, who was 10 at the time she played Martha McIver.
Location shooting took place in Kanab Canyon, the Gap, Kanab movie fort, and the Coral Pink Sand Dunes in Utah.
One Little Indian is directed by Bernard McEveety, runs 90 minutes, is made by Walt Disney Productions, is distributed by Buena Vista Distribution, is written by Harry Spalding, is shot by Charles F Wheeler, is produced by Ron Miller and Winston Hibler, and is scored by Jerry Goldsmith.
James Garner and Vera Miles re-teamed for Disney’s 1974 The Castaway Cowboy.
The cast are James Garner as Corporal Clint Keyes, Vera Miles as Doris McIver, Pat Hingle as Captain Stewart, Clay O’Brien as Mark, John Doucette as Sergeant Waller, Morgan Woodward as Sergeant Raines, Andrew Prine as Chaplain John Kaplan, Robert Pine as Lieutenant Cummins, Bruce Glover as Schrader, Ken Swofford as Private Dixon, Jay Silverheels as Jimmy Wolf, Jodie Foster as Martha McIver, Walter Brooke as The Doctor, Rudy Diaz as The Apache, John C Flinn III (as John Flinn) as Cowboy, Lois Red Elk as Blue Feather, Hal Baylor as Branigan, Terry Wilson as Stagecoach, Paul Sorensen as The Guard, Read Morgan as Reb, Richard Hale as Old Indian, and Jim Davis as Trail Boss.
