‘The important thing is true love.’ Mmm… quite.
Director Norman Jewison’s utterly sweet 1994 old-style romantic comedy Only You sets out to prove its own adage as hopeless romantic Faith Corvatch (Marisa Tomei) sets off for Italy to find Peter Wright (Robert Downey Jr). She has Faith in true romance, but is he the real Mr Right, the man of her dreams?
Tomei and Downey Jr are charm personified in a scintillating romantic comedy to enthrall everyone who believes that there is only one right one for each of us. Right!
Only You is cute, funny and, when the film gets to Venice, adorable. Billy Zane puts in a hysterical cameo as a poolside Romeo, The False Damon Bradley. Adam LeFevre plays Damon Bradley.
Faith was told when a teenager that her destiny would be a man named Damon Bradley, and now, just as Faith is about to marry someone else, a Damon Bradley calls to wish them the best. Faith sets off to pursue her destiny in Italy.
Also in the cast are Bonnie Hunt, Joaquim de Almeida, Fisher Stevens, John Benjamin Hickey, Adam LeFevre, Siobhan Fallon, Antonia Reay, Phyllis Newman, Denise Du Maurier, Tammy Minoff, Harry Barandes, Jessica Hertel and Rick Applegate.
Norman Jewison has been nominated for seven Oscars.
