Director Michael Oblowitz’s 2003 revenge, payback action crime adventure Out for a Kill stars ageing action-man Steven Seagal in what seems like an unusual role for him as a college archaeology professor called Robert Burns, who is framed for being accomplice in a foiled Chinese cocaine deal.
But it turns into yet another typical role for him as a man out for vengeance, when he escapes from jail where he has been banged up for innocent involvement in a drugs crime.
Sloppy writing and slapdash action combine to sink this noisy, unconvincing comic-book martial-arts thriller, filmed in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Dennis Dimster’s screenplay is based on a story by Danny Lerner.
Also in the cast are Michelle Goh, Corey Johnson, Tom Wu, Chike Chan, Kata Dobó, Kevin Dunn, M C Harvey, Chooye Bay and Elaine Tan.
