Director Delbert Mann’s 1965 comedy Quick, Before It Melts stars Robert Morse and George Maharis as coy cub reporter Oliver Cromwell Cannon and confident, womanising photojournalist Peter Santelli who set off to get their magazine story about military life in the Antarctic.
There the troops import a bevy of beauties, there’s a defecting Russian scientist and some silly simple farcical comedy ensues.
With a plot and script worthy of a Carry On movie, it is a forgettable piece of fluff but there are four small points in its favour – its good nature, the easy-going performances, the amusing title and, most especially, the classic tune, ‘The Stripper’ (music by David Rose). One of its stars, Milton Fox, is a penguin! Dale Wasserman’s screenplay is taken from Philip Benjamin’s novel.
Also in the cast are Anjanette Comer, James Gregory, Howard St John, Norman Fell, Janine Gray, Bernard Fox, Michael Constantine, Richard LePore, Yvonne Craig, Conlan Carter, Hal Baylor, Nelson Olmsted and Doodles Weaver.
