A welcome sequel to 2002’s $100 million hit Resident Evil, based on the popular video game, sees teenage boys’ dream Milla Jovovich returning to Raccoon City for more in-your-face kick-ass action.
This time Milla’s Alice teams up with Sienna Guillory’s Jill Valentine and Oded Fehr’s Carlos Olivera to eliminate the virus that turns humans into zombies. This lurid movie is brilliantly flashy, with regular bursts of exciting action, so fans won’t perhaps complain that Paul W S Anderson’s screenplay is totally incoherent.
And, above all, raring-to-go Jovovich again shows she is the teenage boys’ fantasy action heroine to reckon with. Also in the cast are Eric Mabius, Thomas Kretschmann, Sophie Vavasseur, Raz Adoti, Jared Harris, and Mike Epps.
It is preceded by Resident Evil (2002) and followed by three more sequels so far, Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010) and Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), all with Jovovich. A sixth episode is due in 2016: Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016).
Anderson married Jovovich on 22 August 2009 and they have one child.
