Return to Boggy Creek ** (1977, Dawn Wells, Dana Plato, David Sobiesk, Marcus Claudel, Louis Belaire, John Hofeus) – Classic Movie Review 13,219

The palatable 1977 family-oriented adventure/ horror film Return to Boggy Creek stars Dawn Wells, Dana Plato, David Sobiesk, Marcus Claudel, and Louis Belaire as the Bigfoot-like Monster.

Director Tom Moore’s palatable 1977 G-rated family-oriented adventure/ horror film Return to Boggy Creek stars Dawn Wells, Dana Plato, David Sobiesk, Marcus Claudel, Louis Belaire, and John Hofeus.

Dawn Wells plays the mother of two of three children who become lost in a swamp during a hurricane that endangers the youngsters, but then the Monster (Louis Belaire), an almost human creature that looks like Bigfoot, comes to their rescue. Dana Plato plays elder sister Evie-Jo, David Sobiesk plays her little brother John-Paul and Marcus Claudel plays their younger mute friend T-Fish.

Made cheaply but with sufficient care, it is slightly scary for youngsters and all fairly amusing as a junior mystery chiller. The acting is maybe only moderate, but then the actors are having to battle some weakly devised situations and some fairly feeble dialogue. It is a straightforward adventure film without using the original film’s trademark docudrama elements.

This unofficial sequel to The Legend of Boggy Creek (1973) was followed by an official third part, Boggy Creek II: And the Legend Continues (1985).

The cast are Dawn Wells as Jolene, Dana Plato as Evie Jo, David Sobiesk as John Paul, Marcus Claudel as T-Fish, Louis Belaire as The Monster, John Hofeus, Jim Wilson, Richard Cusimano, John Fiero, Ray Gaspard, Enid Thompson, Marc Buford, Vic Vead, Randy Driskell, Jane Fiero, Ken Kennedy, Owen Reamer, and Roger Claudel.

Return to Boggy Creek is directed by Tom Moore, runs 87 minutes, is made by Bayou Productions, is released by Dimension Pictures, is written by John David Woody, is shot by Robert Bethard, is produced by Bob Gates and is scored by Darrell Deck.
