Director Jesse Hibbs’s 1954 Western Ride Clear of Diablo stars Andie Murphy as railroad surveyor Clay O’Mara, who rides out to avenge the murder of his father and brother, and becomes deputy to Fred Kenyon (Paul Birch), the sheriff who has been hired to kill him as well.
Ride Clear of Diablo is a striking, lively Western with involving plot twists, handsome Technicolor cinematography and strong support performances from a fine Western cast. Dan Duryea, in particular, gives it a shot in the arm as Whitey Kincaid, the gunslinger who aids Murphy.
Also in the cast are Susan Cabot, Abbe Lane, Russell Johnson, Paul Birch, Jack Elam, William Pullen, Lane Bradford, Denver Pyle, Holly Bane, Robert Bray, Frank Ellis, John Goddard, Harold Goodwin, Frank Hagney, Hank Patterson, Larry Williams, Scott Lee, George Lynn and Paul McGuire.
Ride Clear of Diablo is directed by Jesse Hibbs, runs 82 minutes, is made and released by Universal International Pictures, is written by George Zuckerman and D D Beauchamp, based on a story by Ellis Marcus, is shot in Technicolor by Irving Glassberg, is produced by John W Rogers and is scored by Henry Mancini, Milton Rosen, Hans J Salter and Frank Skinner.
