‘The Stars of BORN FREE Shine Even Brighter.’

Director Jack Couffer’s 1969 family film Ring of Bright Water is sweet tale, taken from Gavin Maxwell’s book, well acted, appealingly told and attractively photographed in lovely Technicolor.

The Born Free couple Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers (this time as Mary MacKenzie and Graham Merrill) give Mijbil the otter the same tender loving care that they gave to Elsa the lioness in this compassionate family feature, directed by Disney wildlife graduate Couffer.

Also in the cast are Peter Jeffrey, Roddy McMillan, Jameson Clark, Jean Taylor-Smith, Helena Gloag, W D Joss, June Ellis, Christopher Benjamin, Kevin Collins, Archie Duncan, Philippa Gail, James Gibson, Tommy Godfrey, Philip McCall, Philip Morant, Michael O’Halloran, John Young, Walter Hall and Bill Horsley.

Joseph Strick, who produces, was originally intended to direct.

Virginia McKenna was born on 7 June 1931.
