Writer-director Coline Serreau’s 1989 light French film comedy Romuald et Juliette [Mama, There’s a Man in Your Bed] stars Daniel Auteuil and Firmine Richard, and concerns an interracial romance.
Romuald (Auteuil) is a victim at work and at home, when his business is sabotaged and his wife has an affair with one of his work partners. But his obscure object of desire, Caribbean night office cleaning lady Juliette (Richard), takes him in and plots to put him back on top.
Romuald et Juliette is a warm but sharp romantic comedy with spirited performances and a director (Serreau from Three Men and a Cradle [Trois hommes et un couffin]) who makes her simple points about rich and poor and following your heart with gracious ease.
Also in the cast are Pierre Vernier as Blache, Maxime Leroux as Cloquet, Giles Privat as Paulin, Catherine Salviat as Francoise Blindet, Muriel Combeau as Nicole, Alexandre Basse as Benjamine, Aissatou Bah as Félicité, Mamadou Bah as Désiré, Pascal N’Zonzi as Douta, Marina M’Boa Ngong as Claire, Sambou Tati as Aimé, Alain Tretout as Vidal, Fabienne Chaudat as Madame Salgado, Emil Abossolo-Mbo as husband 2, José Garcia as worker, Carole Franck as the receptionist, Lionel Abelanski as the sick guy, and Nicholas Serreau as Fonctionnaire HLM.
