I met him on a Monday and my heart stood still. That’s the story here. Thibaut Cattelin stars as Noah, a young engineer stoned with anti-depressants since a trauma, who is taking a road trip with his two friends when he meets mysterious bad boy Lohan (Jules Bahloul), a tattoo artist.
Noah takes pills because of past family trauma and Lohan is a chain-smoking asthmatic. They are made for each other. Spending seven days together, they find their friendship quickly progressing into a true love story.
The 2022 French film Rosodium is a short feature at only 60 minutes, directed by Théodore Tomasz, who also co-writes the screenplay with Théo Roudant and Manon Villeneuve. What seems like an oddball gay romance turns into a weird, surreal fantasy film defying all and any expectations. There is plenty of creativity and inventiveness on show and the two actors share excellent screen chemistry. It turns out frustratingly to be too short a feature. Another half hour could have developed it profitably further and fulfilled its considerable promise. Even so, it’s strangely entrancing. It’s imaginative, powered and fired up – and definitely a one-off. It really does start on a Monday, by the way, and it ends there too, possibly.
