Rudy **** (1993, Sean Astin, Jon Favreau, Ned Beatty) – Classic Movie Review 5005

Director David Anspaugh’s 1993 biographical American sports drama / football movie tells the early 60s Illinois story of Rudy Ruettiger.

He dreams of playing American football for top university team Notre Dame, but is held back by his short stature, weedy physique and steel mill town working-class background.

Sean Astin is ideally cast and winning in the title part in this inspirational, well-handled true story. It also stars Jon Favreau as D-Bob and Ned Beatty as Daniel Ruettiger.

Also in the cast are Greta Lind, Scott Benjaminson, Mary Ann Thebus, Charles S Dutton, Lili Taylor, Christopher Reed, Robert Prosky, Jason Miller, Gerry Becker, Robert Swan, Lauren Katz, Chelcie Ross, Mitch Rouse, Amy Pietz, Jennie Israel, Robert Steinmiller Jr and Kevin C White.

It is written by Angelo Pizzo, shot by Oliver Wood, produced by Cary Woods and Robert N Fried, scored by Jerry Goldsmith and designed by Robb Wilson King.
