Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker team up again as Inspector Lee and LAPD detective James Carter for the first sequel to their 1998 blockbuster. This time they get involved in more crime-fighting chaos when they take on the mighty Triads who are mixed up in counterfeiting money in Hong Kong.
Director Brett Ratner’s amiable 2001 second dose of high-kicking comedy action is more or less on a par with the first – exactly what the fans want.
Jackie can still do the action, as he shows in a couple of scraps, and big-mouthed Tucker just never shuts up, though, luckily, he’s toned down his performance half a notch. John Lone adds a touch of class as the suave Triad boss, Ricky Tan.
Ziyi Zang, Roselyn Sanchez, Harris Yulin, Alan King and Kenneth Tsang co-star.
Chan and Tucker returned for another sequel, Rush Hour 3 (2007), again directed by Ratner. A fourth one is planned, but there’s no sign of it so far.
