Seed of Chucky * (2004, Jennifer Tilly, voice of Brad Dourif, John Waters, Jason Flemyng) – Classic Movie Review 9404

Writer-director Don Mancini’s 2004 black comedy fantasy horror movie Seed of Chucky is the enterprising fifth movie about the evil serial killer doll, following Child’s Play (1988), Child’s Play 2 (1990), Child’s Play 3 (1991) and Bride of Chucky (1998).

When production starts on a movie about her parents Chucky and Tiffany’s lethal exploits, gender confused Glen or Glenda (voice of Billy Boyd) heads for Hollywood and resurrects the deadly duo, who go on a new killing spree. Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) is thrilled the movie will star her favourite actress, Jennifer Till. Chucky (voice of Brad Dourif) wants Glenda to be a chip off the old block.

This silly but nasty horror spoof has the strong level of horror violence, gore, sexual content and language expected of the bad karma series, as well as a Hollywood-savvy, campy, darkly humorous tone.

John Waters appears as Pete Peters and Jason Flemyng plays Santa. Flemyng later mused ruefully: ‘I was dressed as Santa, getting killed by a doll, on a set in Romania, thinking: “Where did it go wrong?”‘

An unrated version of Seed of Chucky is been released on DVD.

It is followed by Curse of Chucky (2013) and Cult of Chucky (2017).

Child’s Play was remade in 2019.

In January 2019, the news came that a Chucky TV series had been ordered By Syfy.

It is based on Don Mancini’s characters, after writing the screenplay and story for Child’s Play way back in 1988.
