Director Harry Keller’s 1960 Eastmancolor American Western film Seven Ways from Sundown is based on a novel by Clair Huffaker, who also wrote the script, and stars Audie Murphy, Barry Sullivan, Venetia Stevenson, John McIntire, Kenneth Tobey and Mary Field.
Sullivan plays ruthless gunman Jim Flood who is hunted down and taken prisoner by inexperienced Texas Ranger lawman Seven Jones (Murphy), but soon finds transporting him to prison involves a dangerous journey where they sometimes have to work together to survive.
Seven Ways from Sundown is an efficient, engrossing little Western, in which a traditional plotline is given an enjoyably fresh airing thanks to two charismatic performances by the leads and crisp direction from Keller.
Also in the cast are Ken Lynch, Suzanne Lloyd, Ward Ramsey, Don Collier, Jack Kruschen, Claudia Barrett, Teddy Rooney, Don Haggerty, Robert Burton, Fred Graham and Dale Van Sickel.
Teddy Rooney is the son of actors Mickey Rooney and Martha Vickers.
It is partly shot in St George, Utah.
During filming in the studio, shortly after the unit had returned from location outside Las Vegas, original director George Sherman and Murphy had a violent argument over a line reading and Sherman was replaced by Harry Keller.
Murphy started a year-long affair with co-star Venetia Stevenson.
