A mutant great white shark attacks the residences of a fishing village on the African coast in director Bob Misiorowski’s tatty, low-budget 1999 terror-of-the-deep horror action thriller Shark Attack.
Casper Van Dien brings little bite to his role as marine biologist Steven McKray who goes to the fishing village in South Africa where his friend has fallen victim to the monster. The local hotel owner Lawrence Rhodes (Ernie Hudson) and scientist Miles Craven (Bentley Mitchum) tell him about mysterious shark attacks in the area. McKray teams up with Corinne Desantis (Jenny McShane), the sister of his late friend Marc (Cordell McQueen), to investigate.
This feeble chiller boasts plenty of daft plot and daft dialogue, but it is nowhere near Jaws or even Deep Blue Sea for tension, scares and thrills. However, with its poor acting, scripting and direction, it is often funny, and enjoyable along the so-bad-it’s good lines.
Also in the cast are Ernie Hudson, Jenny McShane, Bentley Mitchum, Tony Caprari, Chris Olley, Jacob Makgoba, Paul Ditchfield and Cordell McQueen.
Shark Attack is written by Scott Devine and William Hooke.
Shark Attack 2 and Shark Attack 3: Magalodon (2002) followed.
Casper Van Dien also starred in the 1997 monster movie Starship Troopers.
