Writer-director John Cameron Mitchell’s highly provocative, extremely controversial 2006 American erotic comedy-drama film teaches a lesson of acceptance as it centres on a sexually diverse group of colorful characters trying to connect in New York City.
The characters converge in a weekly Brooklyn underground artistic and sexual salon infamous for its blend of art, music, politics and sexuality, inspired by underground NYC gatherings in the early 2000s.
Mitchell said his film attempts to ’employ sex in new cinematic ways because it’s too interesting to leave to porn’ so he includes explicit scenes containing non-simulated sexual intercourse with penetration and ejaculation. Just thought you’d like to know.
Sook-Yin Lee, Peter Stickles, PJ DeBoy, Paul Dawson, Lindsay Beamish, Jay Brannan, Raphael Barker, Alan Mandell, Adam Hardman, Ray Rivas, and Justin Hagan are among the cast.
The orgy participants in Club Shortbus are credited as Sextras at the end.
Mitchell only appears uncredited as a Sextra but is the star of Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001). He is also the director of Rabbit Hole (2010),
