Netflix’s first original gay Christmas movie Single All the Way (2021) follows perpetually single Peter, who gets his friend to act as his boyfriend visiting his family for the holidays. It’s a feel-good treat.
The jolly as holly 2021 Canadian Christmas-themed gay men romantic comedy film Single All the Way is directed by Michael Mayer and written by Chad Hodge.
Netflix’s first original gay Christmas movie Single All the Way follows the story of perpetually single Peter (Michael Urie), who convinces his best friend (Philemon Chambers) to act as his boyfriend when they visit his family for the holidays. Then he is set up on a blind date by his mother (Kathy Najimy).
Before they can announce their fake relationship, Peter’s mother Carole tells him that she has set him up on a blind date with her spinning instructor James, and Peter reluctantly agrees.
This LGBTQ+ Christmas movie is a feel-good treat. Jennifer Coolidge is hilarious as Peter’s flamboyant Aunt Sandy. Luke Macfarlane, Barry Bostwick, and Jennifer Robertson also star.
The film was released by Netflix on December 2, 2021.
The cast are Michael Urie as Peter, Philemon Chambers as Nick, Luke Macfarlane as James, Barry Bostwick as Harold, Jennifer Robertson as Lisa, Jennifer Coolidge as Aunt Sandy, Kathy Najimy as Carole, Madison Brydges as Daniela, Alexandra Beaton as Sofia, Dan Finnerty as Kevin the Snow Plow Guy, Steve Lund as Tim, and Melanie Leishman as Ashleigh.
Principal photography took place in Montreal, Quebec. Kathy Najimy’s husband Dan Finnerty was cast after he wanted to join her there. He wrote and performed two original songs (Mrs Claus and Single All the Way).
Hodge wrote the character of Aunt Sandy with Jennifer Coolidge in mind without knowing whether she would agree. He said she was among the things he would want to see in a gay Christmas movie.
