Melissa Sagemiller plays a college young woman called Cassie who is traumatised by a horrific car crash that killed her boyfriend (Casey Affleck). Cassie is befriended by a mysterious young priest named Father Jude (Luke Wilson) and now she believes that she is haunted by her dead lover’s spirit.
There’s a neat young cast, and an effective creepy atmosphere, but screen-writer/ director Stephen Carpenter’s feeble plot damages producer Neal H Moritz’s unconvincing 2001 teen chiller. However, Wes Bentley, Eliza Dushku and Angela Featherstone are plenty creepy as Sagemiller’s weird friends, Matt, Annabel and Raven.
Also in the cast are Allen Hamilton as Dr Haverston, Ken Moreno as Hideous Dancer, Carl Paoli as Deathmask, Barbara E Robertson as Margaret, Richard Pickren as Ben and Rick Snyder as Father McManus.
Affleck again plays the ghost of a dead husband in the 2017 A Ghost Story. Spooky or what?
The film’s composer Daniel Licht died of cancer on 2 aged 60. He was also the composer of the Emmy-award-winning show Dexter and the hugely popular video games Silent Hill and Dishonored.
