Co-writer/director Trey Parker’s outrageous 1999 animated satirical comedy centres on American parents who try to force their government to wage war on the corrupting Canadians. Cartman, Kenny, Kyle, Stan and Chef from Parker and Matt Stone’s popular animated TV series hit the big screen – and the satirical targets include Canada and Saddam Hussein.
Kyle Broflovski’s mom Sheila pronounces four South Park boys corrupted after they see Terrance & Phillip: Asses of Fire, an R-rated movie featuring Canadians, and she stirs up the town’s parents to force the United States government to wage war against Canada in World War Three.
A very big cinema hit, this loud, obscene and totally un-PC cartoon-capers comedy is mostly for fans of way-out laughs and the TV show, who will adore it. Trey Parker and Marc Shaiman’s song Blame Canada was Oscar nominated. Those with proper, decent sensibilities should avoid seeing the movie altogether but certainly avoid hearing Parker’s song Uncle Fucka, which won Best Musical Performance at the 2000 MTV Movie Awards.
Voices by Parker, Stone, Mary Kay Bergman, Isaac Hayes, Jesse Howell, Jennifer Howell, George Clooney, Brent Spiner, Minnie Driver, Dave Foley, Eric Idle, Nick Rhodes and Mike Judge.
A funny disclaimer reads: ‘Conan O’Brien, Brooke Shields, President Clinton, The Baldwin Brothers and Winona Ryder did not authorize the use of their names or contribute any performances to this motion picture.’
