Will Ferrell and John C Reilly’s second movie together, 2008’s riotous Step Brothers, follows 2006’s uneven Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
In the admirably silly story by Ferrell, Reilly and director Adam McKay, the duo play middle-aged slacker losers, Brennan Huff and Dale Doback, still living at home but forced to become roommates when Brennan’s mom and Dale’s dad marry.
Also in the game-for-anything cast are Mary Steenburgen as Nancy Huff, Richard Jenkins as Dr Robert Doback, Kathryn Hahn, and Adam Scott as Derek. The excellent ensemble performances and clever gags combine to put Step Brothers in the hilarious class.
There’s no shortage of crude and sexual content and pervasive language in Ferrell and McKay’s dynamic comedy screenplay.
Finally in 2016 it was announced that a third Ferrell and Reilly movie is planned: Holmes and Watson.
