Director Barnet Kellman’s 1992 film is a good-natured comedy with a typically spunky performance by Dolly Parton as Shirlee, a small town spouter of home truths, who gets a job as a hit Chicago radio talk show agony aunt.
But alas, poor James Woods, who has to play straight man to the star as an amorous newshound called Jack.
And what happened to the story in the screenplay by Craig Bolotin and Patricia Resnick?
It is shot by Peter Sava, produced by Robert Chartoff and scored by Brad Fiedel.
Also in the solid cast are Griffin Dunne, Michael Madsen, Deirdre O’Connell, John Sayles, Charles Fleischer, Teri Hatcher, Spalding Gray, Jerry Orback, Philip Bosco and Jay Thomas, with Ron Livingston in his feature film debut.
