Director Kenneth Hope’s tense, eerie and intelligent 2001 true-story thriller Superstition stars Mark Strong as an attorney who seeks the truth when English teenage au pair nanny Julie (Sienna Guillory) is accused of starting a fire that killed an Italian baby. It seems Julie may possess telepathic skills and the local Italians think she is a witch.
This creepy tale of witchcraft and wizardry has a pretty subtle script by Kate Dennis and Paul Hoffman, based on a screen story by Stephen Volk, and is well played, too, by a stalwart cast, keeping the viewer riveted to discover the outcome.
Also in the cast are Charlotte Rampling, Frances Barber, David Warner, Alice Krige, Derek de Lint, David Sterne, David Schofield, Wendy Veldhuis, Esther Paradijs and Matyelok Gibbs.
