A good, quirky sitcom situation, a strong, likeable cast and a funny, appealing romantic comedy drama from director Jeffrey Blitz, working from a screenplay by Jay and Mark Duplass.
Anna Kendrick stars as Eloise who has been dumped as maid of honour duties after being dumped by the best man Teddy (Wyatt Russell) via text, but attends the wedding and finds herself at the dead-beat Table 19, the one next to the bathrooms.
Tony Revolori, Stephen Merchant, June Squibb, Lisa Kudrow, Craig Robinson play the five fellow unwanted guests she’s seated with. Luckily, all these are funny people, and on good form too.
Yes, it’s another wedding comedy, and another success. Don’t you just love to laugh and cry at weddings? The character driven script is quite witty and the actors effortlessly bat the funny lines and situations out of the ballpark. Kendrick is her usual very appealing self, Squibb, Kudrow, and Robinson are all gainfully employed and excellent, and Merchant is particularly funny as the ‘successful businessman’ just out of jail. All good, all good.
