Berlin Olympic decathlon champion Glenn Morris takes over Tarzan’s loincloth (for one attempt only) and swimming champion Eleanor Holm is his lady friend Eleanor Reed in director D Ross Lederman’s daft 1938 jungle adventure Tarzan’s Revenge.
Sweet Holm is hunting big game with her parents and fiance, when she finds herself lusted over by the local polygamous bad guy Ben Alleu Bey (C Henry Gordon), who wants to add her to his harem, naturally incurring the wrath of the jealous Ape Man.
Also in the cast are George Barbier, Hedda Hopper, George Meeker, Corbet Morris, Joe [Joseph] Sawyer, John Lester Johnson, and Frederick Clarke.
Tarzan’s Revenge is directed by D Ross Lederman, runs 70 minutes, is made by Sol Lesser Productions, is released by 20th Century Fox, is written by Robert Lee Johnson and Jay Vann, is shot in black and white by George Meehan, is produced by Sol Lesser and is scored by Abe Meyer.
The film is in the public domain.
Allegedly, an unauthorised Turkish release of this film years later had a Turkish actor’s face superimposed over Glenn Morris’s face.
When Tarzan is showing Eleanor his vine skills, there are two short inserts of an Asian elephant in the African jungle.
