‘The mighty titan of terror in his most incredible adventure,’ screamed Toho studios to advertise director Ishirô Honda’s 1975 Japanese horror movie, the 15th in the Gojira/ Godzilla series, which by then already had been running 20 years.
It is serious stuff as the titanic lizard Godzilla saves Earth from the conquering alien space invaders who come from a black hole in space and send in a couple of satisfactory monsters in Mechagodzilla, a 400ft robot armed with killer lasers and guided missiles, and gigantic amphibious dinosaur Titanosaurus, who endearingly look as though they have stepped straight out of your breakfast cereal packet.
It stars Katsuhiko Sasaki, Tomoko Ai, Akihiko Hirata, Katsumasa Uchida, Gorô Mutsumi, Tadao Nakamaru, Shin Roppongi and Kenji Sahara.
Toru Kawai plays Gojira and Ise Mori plays Mekagojira 2.
The screenplay and story are by Yukiko Takayama.
It is also known as Mekagojira no gyakushuu and The Terror of Godzilla.
