Following the flop of Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III in 1990, the revamped Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise returns in 1994 with original co-writer Kim Henkel as writer, co-producer and director.
But despite that, and being able to boast two big star names in Renée Zellweger (as Jenny) and Matthew McConaughey (as Vilmer), this is a really poor attempt to revive a dead series, which even original co-writer Henkel cannot breath life into in his three capacities as writer-producer-director. It is Henkel’s only director credit.
This time, Robert Jacks plays the demonic Leatherface, replacing Gunnar Hansen and Bill Johnson and R A Mihailoff under the mask.
It is the same-old, same-old when Jenny and her teenage friends get into a car crash in the Texas woods on prom night, go into an old farmhouse and run into Vilmer and his psychopath clan of cannibals.
It is rated R for demented mayhem and torture, and for strong language.
Also in the cast are Tonie Perensky, Joe Stevens, Lisa [Marie] Newmyer, John Harrison, Tyler [Shea] Cone, James Gale, Chris Kilgore and Loren Guerra.
It is shot by Levie Isaacks, executive produced by Robert J Kuhn, scored by Wayne Bell and Robert Jacks, and designed by Deborah Pastor.
It is also known as The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was remade in 2003 with Texas Chainsaw 3D in 2013.
