Writer-producer-directors Norman Panama and Melvin Frank’s long forgotten 1956 Technicolor comedy That Certain Feeling at least has the great benefit of starring Bob Hope, Eva Marie Saint, George Sanders and Pearl Bailey.
Hope plays Francis X Dignan, who ghost writes pompous cartoonist Larry Larkin (Sanders)’s cartoon comic strip. But it all gets messily complicated because now Sanders is engaged to Hope’s ex-wife Dunreath Henry (Saint).
Despite the appealing cast, That Certain Feeling is a thin, rather strained, little more than only just bearable Bob Hope comedy, with some feeble jokes and some tired performances, somewhat struggling with the screenplay by Norman Panama, Melvin Frank, I A L Diamond and William Altman, based on the smash hit Broadway stage play The King of Hearts by Jean Kerr and Eleanor Brooke.
Also in the cast are David Lewis, Al Capp, Jerry Mathers, Herbert Rudley, Florenz Ames, Richard Shannon and Paul Dubov.
Cloris Leachman and Jackie Cooper played the Saint and Hope roles on Broadway.
