The advertising line tell the whole story: ‘It was the perfect wedding except for two things …the bride’s parents.’
Director Carl Reiner’s fun 1997 movie stars Bette Midler and Dennis Farina as feuding former married couple coming together again when they get That Old Feeling after they are forced to put up with each other one more time for the sake of their daughter Molly (Paula Marshall), who’s getting wed.
Written by Leslie Dixon, this is an amusing, engagingly old-fashioned, Neil Simon-style comedy, which gets its laughs mainly thanks to Midler and Farina’s expert laugh-raising turns. These turns are more valuable than the screenplay, which does nevertheless provide a decent vehicle for the Midler and Farina double act.
David Rasche, Gail O’Grady, Jamie Denton, Danny Nucci and Jayne Eastwood are also in the cast.
That Old Feeling is Carl Reiner’s most recent film as director. He was born on March 20 1922.
Dennis Farina died on Jaged 69.
