Director Nick Love’s 2005 film stars Danny Dyer, Tamer Hassan and Roland Manookian, all of whom were in Love’s previous film The Football Factory. The cool look and sounds of the Eighties conjure up the otherwise ghastly Thatcher era, when a new life in Malaga was definitely an improvement on the high-rises of London, provided you lived long enough to enjoy it.
This blood-spattered Brit gangster flick is the biz, with high-energy acting, an exciting tale and plenty of hard action. Danny Dyer plays Frankie, an 1980s South London wideboy, who flees to Spain’s sun-drenched costa del crime, where he’s befriended by playboy crook Charlie (Tamer Hassan). He’s delivering a stash of cash to Hasaan, who takes him on as his driver and one of his gang of organized crime.
Unfortunately Hassan’s crazy partner Sammy (Geoff Bell) – the fly in the Spanish ointment – hates Dyer on sight. Lots of 80s atmosphere, fashion and music – plus a nail-biting climax – are the icing on this thrilling crime cake.
It also stars Georgina Chapman, Camille Coduri, Eddie Webber, Linda Henry and Adam Bolton.
