Scientist Gary ‘Hunter’ Henderson (Stephen McHattie) and the ruthless, vengeful crazed ex-FBI agent Paul Buckner (Brion James) vie to track down a vicious giant prehistoric rat-like creature in the 1991 horror film The Dark.
Director Craig Pryce’s 1993 Canadian low-budget horror monster movie The Dark is written by Robert Cooper, and stars Stephen McHattie, Brion James, Jaimz Woolvett and Scott Wickware.
Scientist Gary ‘Hunter’ Henderson (Stephen McHattie) and the ruthless, vengeful crazed ex-FBI agent Paul Buckner (Brion James) vie to track down a vicious giant prehistoric rat-like creature that lives in tunnels under a graveyard and feeds on dead bodies, in this gruesome but often effective chiller. The hero scientist wants to preserve the beast to study it for medical cures and the vengeful agent is determined to kill it.
The Dark sometimes stumbles, but there are many good sequences and the climactic clash with the creature is tense and thrilling.
Commendably, the actors play it as if they believe every word of it, adding to its effectiveness.
Also in the cast are Desmond Campbell, Dennis O’Connor, Jaimz Woolvett, Cynthia Belliveau, Bruce Beaton, Addison Bell, Robbie Rox, Ian MacDonald, Neve Campbell (in her big screen debut, as a policewoman), Christopher Bondy and William Lynn.
Brion James died of a heart attack on aged 54.
