In a very near future society, culture has died.

The Designated Mourner stars Mike Nichols and Miranda Richardson as husband and wife Jack and Judy, and David de Keyser as Judy’s father Howard, living in a fictional repressive country.

Director David Hare’s quickly shot 1997 cinema version of Wallace Shawn’s play is all lines spoken to camera, in a film for theatre buffs only.

It runs 94 minutes, is made by British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Greenpoint Films, and distributed by First Look International.
