Director Melvin Frank’s amusing 1976 Western slapstick comedy The Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox stars George Segal and Goldie Hawn as gambler Charlie Malloy and saloon hostess Amanda Quaid who get mixed up with trekking Mormons, a Jewish marriage and an outlaw gang.
The stars’ charisma and chemistry easily see Melvin Frank, Jack Rose and Barry Sandler’s raunchy, scattergun screenplay through to the winning post, helped by the pretty views of Colorado and the five songs with words by Sammy Cahn and Melvin Frank and music by Charles Fox. Hawn performs Please Don’t Touch My Plums and Bobby Vinton performs Lemon Drops, Lollipops and Sunbeams.
Also in the cast are Conrad Janis, Thayer David, Roy Jenson, Bob Hoy, Bennie Dobbins, Pat Ast, Jennifer Lee, Sid Gould, E J André, Richard Farnsworth, Harlan Knudson, and Bill McLaughlin.
