Director Paul Verhoeven’s 1983 Dutch film The Fourth Man [De Vierde Man] stars Jeroen Krabbé as Gerard Reve, a bisexual writer who goes on a lecture tour and tries to uncover the secrets of sexy Christine Halsslag (Renée Soutendijk), who may have bumped off three husbands. It is time for Christine to find her fourth man.
This chic, entertaining art-house black comedy mystery thriller is very smartly handled by the director of Basic Instinct/ Total Recall / RoboCop. It is written by Gerard Soeteman, based on the novel by Gerard Reve, and is shot by future director Jan de Bont.
Also in the cast are Thom Hoffman, Dolf de Vries, Hans Veerman and Geert de Jong.
