Directors Ted Berman, Richard Rich and Art Stevens’s 1981 animated feature The Fox and the Hound is a mild Walt Disney cartoon about a fox’s friendship with a hunting dog, whose owner finds this unnatural, so the animals learn fear and hate until fate intervenes.
Mickey Rooney and Kurt Russell provide the voices of the fox Tod and the dog Copper, and other voices are by Pearl Bailey (as Big Mama), Jack Albertson (as Amos Slade), Sandy Duncan (as Vixey) and Jeanette Nolan (as Widow Tweed).
The Fox and the Hound was popular but is not in the vintage Disney class thanks to the merely modest appeal of the characters, story and drawings. It is based on the book by Daniel P Mannix.
