‘If you don’t fit in… you’re dead!’
Director David DeCoteau’s 2002 slasher horror mystery thriller film The Frightening stars Matt Twining [Matthew Twining], Brinke Stevens, James E Foley, and Jack Carlisle III.
A troubled teenager called Corey Peterson (Matt Twining), living with his widowed mom (Brinke Stevens), hopes to put the past behind and make a fresh start at a new school in a US small town, Hallows End High School. But naturally he hasn’t counted on a spate of gruesome deaths and bizarre disappearances of students.
The Frightening’s a bargain-basement slasher chiller with plenty of gore but little originality, though it is made with some relish by David DeCoteau, and acted with plenty of enthusiasm by the mainly young cast.
It was shot at Hollywood High School in Hollywood and Hamilton High School in West Los Angeles.
Writer: Matthew Jason Walsh.
The cast are Matt Twining, Brinke Stevens, James E Foley, Jack Carlisle III, Charity Rahmer, Tanya Dempsey, Robert Donovan, Elizabeth Bruderman, Kyle Patrick, Scott Clark, and Mark Miller.
David DeCoteau (born January 5, 1962) has produced and directed more than 170 films since 1986.
‘I don’t really care about reviews too much,’ he says. ‘I don’t even really read many comments online either. Everyone has their own opinion, and the Internet has become a soapbox for bitter people who don’t like anything. Some of my favourite films have the worst reviews, and some terrible movies have great reviews.’
