Steven Seagal stars in director John Gray’s 1996 action movie The Glimmer Man as New York cop Lieutenant Jack Cole who comes to LA to assist fellow officer Detective Jim Campbell (Keenen Ivory Wayans) in a case of murder-by-crucifixion by a serial killer nicknamed The Family Man.
Then Cole’s ex-wife is the next victim – and, with his fingerprints waiting to be found by the cops, he is set up as the killer.
This basic, grisly, violent police thriller does deliver the goods with exciting action sequences.
There are no surprises in the plotting, and good actors Bob Gunton and Brian Cox over-do their bad guy roles entertainingly. But, with Seagal and Wayans on reasonably fit form, this hardworking effort is still above par for the Seagal course. It is well produced on a substantial $45,000,000 budget, short at 91 minutes, and pacy.
Also in the cast are John M Jackson, Michelle Johnson, Stephen Tobolowsky, Peter Jason, Ryan Cutrona, Richard Gant, Robert Mailhouse and Johnny Strong. Jesse Stock plays Cole’s son and Alexa Vega [Pena Vega] plays Cole’s daughter.
The Glimmer Man is directed by John Gray, runs 91 minutes, is made by Seagal/Nasso Productions, is released by Warner Bros, is written by Kevin Brodbin, is shot by Rick Bota, is produced by Michael J Rachmil and Steven Seagal, is scored by Trevor Rabin and is designed by William Sandell.
