Director Robert D Webb’s 1953 black and white 20th Century Fox war movie The Glory Brigade stars Victor Mature as American lieutenant Sam Pryor, who offers to help a regiment from his old country – Greece – in the Korean War but becomes disillusioned.
The Glory Brigade tells a modest but acceptable war yarn, in a movie with enough action, solid playing and hints of intelligence in the screen-writing by Franklin Coen.
Also in the cast are Alexander Scourby, Lee Marvin, Richard Egan, Alvy Moore, Nick Dennis, Roy Roberts, Frank Gerstle, Carleton Young, Lamont Johnson, Gregg Martell, Henry Kulky and Russell Evans.
Richard Egan was an up-and-coming actor, and plays Sergeant Johnson notably, and was rewarded with a Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer – Male, albeit tied with two other actors, including Steve Forrest in So Big (1953) and Hugh O’Brian in The Man from the Alamo (1953).
Lee Marvin is also particularly notable in the cast as Corporal Bowman.
