Rhonda Fleming stars opposite the great comedian Bob Hope in the comedy thriller The Great Lover (1949), scoring a big hit and making her an established bona fide star.
However, Fleming recalled: ‘After that, I wasn’t fortunate enough to get good directors. I made the mistake of doing lesser films for good money. I was hot – they all wanted me – but I didn’t have the guidance or background to judge for myself.’
But, be prepared! Hope plays just the kind of Boy Scout leader Baden Powell would not have approved of, let loose aboard a cross-Atlantic ship filled with his troublesome troop, luscious Rhonda Fleming and axe murderer Roland Young.
Director Alexander Hall’s 1949 The Great Lover is a very funny comedy thriller, packed with jokes and plot twists, showcasing another classic Hope performance from his best period.
Also in the nice cast are Jim Backus, Roland Culver, George Reeves, Richard Lyon, Gary Gray and Sig Arno.
RIP Rhonda Fleming (born Marilyn Louis; August 10, 1923 – October 14, 2020).
