The Guru (Jimi Mistry, Heather Graham) – Classic Film Review 1049

Director Daisy von Scherler Mayer’s 2002 comedy is a lot of good-natured, easy-going fun.

There’s no mystery here! Jimi Mistry’s got a hit on his hands as Ramu Gupta, a young Indian dance teacher who heads for the big time in New York, but finds himself in Michael McKean’s porn movie, soon falling for his sexy co-star, Heather Graham. When finds himself unable to perform in the movie, he becomes inspired to start a new career as a sex guru.

With performances spot-on, and a funny script, this warm and appealing comedy’s a winner – and the dance routines are a hoot.

Marisa Tomei, Dash Mihok, Emil Marwa and Christine Baranski are also in the cast.
