Ah, yes, ‘It’s Heavenly To Be in Love With Hedy!’ Director Alexander Hall’s 1943 MGM comedy is a daft and amiable farce that is not quite sharp or fizzy enough really to tickle the funny bone, but has a good cast to help it come through.
William Powell stars as an astronomer and neglectful husband who suspects his lovely new wife (played by Hedy Lamarr) of fooling around after a fortune-teller proclaims that she will fall in love with a much travelled man one certain day.
James Craig plays an air raid warden who appears to fit the bill, and then falls for Lamarr.
It is worth a look but it is a pity that a lack of witty lines in the screenplay by Michael Arlen and Walter Reisch damps the fun and cramps the performances.
Also in the cast are Fay Bainter, Henry O’Neill, Spring Byington, Morris Ankrum, Arthur Space, Robert Sully and Connie Gilchrist.
