Director Charles Russell’s 1994 comedy gave Jim Carrey his then best chance to shine to date as mild-mannered bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss, who puts on a mysterious ancient mask and goes from zero to hero with the gals when he is transformed into a manic super-hero. Now he’s a green-faced charmer who can win over the lovely Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz).
This hip, hectic, hilarious action fantasy is splendidly dynamic and inventive, like a cartoon come to life. Clever and amusing, Carrey is utterly winning and the 22-year-old Diaz gives a lovely, career-boosting performance in her first movie.
Peter Riegert plays Lieutenant Mitch Kellaway, Amy Yasbeck is Peggy Brandt and Peter Greene is small time crime boss, Dorian Tyre.
