The 1990 cartoon animated adventure The Rescuers Down Under is the enjoyable Disney sequel to their 1977 hit The Rescuers, with the cartoon mice Bernard and Miss Bianca (again voiced by Bob Newhart and Eva Gabor) off to the Aussie Outback for the International Rescue Aid Society to rescue a bird-loving boy, Jake (voice of Tristan Rogers), and his golden eagle from the local bad guy, nasty hunter McLeach (George C Scott).
There is plenty of story packed in to the fast-moving 74 minutes, plus a pleasing array of appealing voices and arresting visuals helped by the new Nineties computer animation techniques. John Candy voices the comedy part – albatross Wilbur – in an otherwise adventure cartoon film.
The Rescuers Down Under is made by Silver Screen Partners IV, Walt Disney Feature Animation and Walt Disney Pictures, and is released by Buena Vista Pictures.
The directors are Hendel Butoy and Mike Gabriel. The animation screenplay is by Jim Cox, Karey Kirkpatrick, Byron Simpson and Joe Ranft, suggested by characters created by Margery Sharp.
