Sean (son of Errol) Flynn gives a thin-blooded performance as Robert Blood, the son of his real-life father’s notorious pirate character from the excellent 1935 classic swashbuckler Captain Blood.
Director Tulio Demicheli’s flabby 1962 adventure movie is filmed in Spain, enriched by lovely Eastmancolor cinematography and lifted by Ann Todd’s performance as Sean Flynn’s screen mother, Arabella (played by Olivia de Havilland in the original).
Robert Blood is set on the right path by his love for a beautiful young Abigail ‘Abby’ McBride (Alessandra Panaro). It is an acceptable pirate movie with plenty of action, but, alas, this is a scrappy tale that fails fully to involve or entertain.
Also in the cast are José Nieto, John Kitzmiller, Fernando Sancho and Rafaelle Baldassarre.
