Director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s masked killer movie is an effective, creepy, clever and stylish reworking and updating of an old horror favourite. It’s just a little bit different with its references to the 1976 original movie, setting it out from the pack of stalker movies.
In Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s screenplay, the so-called ‘moonlight murders’ begin again 65 years after a masked serial killer terrorised the small town of Texarkana. A lonely high school girl, with dark secrets of her own, may be the key to catching him. It’s both a sequel and a remake as the town now maintains a tradition in every Halloween to show a drive-in screening of the original film, resulting in copycat murder sequences in this new one.
Addison Timlin, Veronica Cartwright, Anthony Anderson, Joshua Leonard and Gary Cole star. Michael Goi’s cinematography has won a couple of awards.
